CARE International responds to the announcement that the ceasefire deal between Israel and Lebanon has been extended until mid-February:

"CARE International acknowledges the recent extension of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon as a critical step in reducing violence and facilitating the delivery of essential humanitarian aid to severely affected areas. However, we stress that a lasting and permanent ceasefire is crucial to preventing further destruction, loss of life, and suffering.

"It is also necessary to ensure continued humanitarian access, particularly to areas still experiencing hostilities along the border. The hostilities have already caused immense loss and damage, with estimates suggesting that the cost of destruction is over seven billion dollars, further exacerbating the hardships faced by communities already grappling with prolonged instability.

"CARE International remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the people living in Lebanon through this crisis and calls on all parties to prioritise the protection of civilians and uphold international law."
