Safeguarding

We have a zero-tolerance approach to any harm to, or exploitation of, a vulnerable adult or a child by any of our staff, representatives or partners.

Maryam, Protection Officer

As an organisation that puts gender equality at the heart of all that we do, CARE recognises the particular responsibility we have to protect people we work with from sexual abuse and exploitation. Such abuse, of anyone, by any of our staff, representatives or partners, is totally unacceptable.

However, while it is completely contrary to our values and principles, we realise that no organisation is immune from a minority of individuals who abuse their position. Therefore, we have clear policies to investigate allegations, support victims and discipline perpetrators.

Reporting misconduct

We encourage anyone who has concerns about misconduct by our staff or relating to our programmes to report this to us so that we can take immediate action. CARE International has a dedicated hotline – CARE line – for receiving reports of wrongful conduct.

It is supported in over 100 languages and is available online or via phone. Reporting can be done anonymously if preferred.
