In Syria, conflict has been raging for over 11 years. It’s hard for us to imagine living through 11 years of war but for women like Farah, this is their reality. Farah was forced to flee her home in search of safety, due to conflict in her country. Today she lives in a displacement camp in Idlib in north-western Syria.

Conflicts like the one in Syria disproportionately impact women and girls, and can lead to heightened risks of domestic violence as tensions rise within families.

Motivated by her own personal experience, Farah took steps to help her community. With support from CARE and our partner, she is now raising awareness about women’s rights and gender-based violence.

“The harsh experience that I went through motivates me to help in guiding women to be active in their society and to say safe…In addition, my goal is to eliminate all forms of violence against women.”

With support from people like you, Farah joined the Balsam Centre which is run by one of CARE’s partners. Here, she was able to learn more about gender-based violence and improve her computer and English language skills. Work like this is only possible with the help of our supporters.

We’ve been working in Syria since 2013 and have reached more than 7.2 million people. Since the conflict began more than 13 million have fled their homes but working with our local Syrian partners, we are delivering emergency assistance and longer-term support.

It’s because of you that we can reach those like Farah, but many more women need urgent support. A gift today could help ensure that women and girls in conflicts all around the world get the support they desperately need.
