Appointment of new interim CEO for CARE International UK
The CARE International UK Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Eamon Cassidy as our new interim CEO, starting July 4. Eamon is a very experienced international development leader and manager, having worked in senior roles for the UK Government at DFID in London and as Country Director in Nigeria and Mozambique.
From 2014-2017, he was Director, Programme Partnerships at Save the Children UK, responsible for relations with all of Save’s major donors, including the UK Government and the World Bank.
Most recently, he was Managing Director of Nathan Associates. Nathan Associates is an international development consultancy with programmes in Africa and Asia around financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment - themes at the heart of CARE’s mission too.
I know Eamon is delighted to be joining CARE, having worked with CARE teams in Africa and been a long-time admirer of our work. The selection panel is confident that the Board, the SMT and the whole staff will enjoy working with him.
At our Board meeting last week, we said farewell to Laurie Lee, after eight successful and demanding years as CEO, especially in recent Covid times, and reflected on his legacy. CARE has become a very different organisation from the one Laurie took over in 2014, with a much wider set of capacities, most notably around humanitarian relief, and a powerful voice advocating for the rights of women and girls. March4Women is a highlight for thousands of supporters and donors who have taken part. CARE has a more diverse set of donors than in the past, which is a clear advantage now with less Government funding for development.
The Board wishes Laurie all the very best for the future and is profoundly grateful for all he has done for CARE.
With best wishes,
Acting Chair, Care International UK
