CARE’s Voices Against Violence campaign calls for an end to violence against women in conflict. Despite recent UN resolutions to protect women from violence, and provide support to survivors, women who live in conflict zones continue to face systematic rape, torture and kidnap.
We in the UK can play a part in ensuring that this violence stops, and that women have the support they need to rebuild their lives. CARE is calling for a voice at the heart of government who will lead the UK's response to violence against women and girls in conflict.
Please join our call to William Hague, asking him to reinstate the Ministerial post for international violence against women.
To add your voice to our petition to William Hague, we're simply asking you to take two minutes of your time to leave him a voice message. Don't worry, you won't be put through to a government telephone, we're collecting voice messages using innovative new technology, and collating them into one message that we will deliver to the Secretary of State.
To take part, follow these easy steps:
Step 1: Call 020 3384 5575
Step 2: Enter pin number 1325
Step 3: Leave your message for William Hague. Please begin your message with “My name is XXX and I am from XX”, and then leave your message.
Some tips for your message:
Use your own words – you don’t need to be an expert on violence against women in conflict. The words of concerned citizens have a big impact on politicians.
Please don’t be rude, polite pressure is our tactic.
If you don’t know what to say, use the following example as a guide:
“Hello my name is XXX and I am from XXX. This message is an appeal to you, Secretary of State William Hague. Please reinstate the Ministerial position on International Violence Against Women, to end the widespread devastation of women’s lives caused by rape as a weapon of war.”
Thank you for your support, we will deliver your messages to the Foreign Secretary, watch out on our website for future developments.
